A serum treats, a moisturizer hydrates and protects, and a face oil seals. Serums are thin, active-packed liquids that target a specific problem like dark spots or acne. Moisturizers are creams that hold water in your skin and strengthen its barrier. Face oils sit on top and lock everything in. Most people in Pakistan need a serum plus a moisturizer. A face oil is optional, and mainly useful in winter or for very dry skin. Apply them thinnest to thickest: serum first, moisturizer second, oil last.

If you have ever stood in front of three bottles wondering which one your face actually needs, you are not alone. It is one of the most searched skincare questions in Pakistan, and most answers online are written for cold European weather, not for Multan heat in June or dry Peshawar air in December. So here is the honest, practical breakdown, with a decision table for Pakistani skin types and seasons.

What is a face serum and what does it actually do?

A serum is a lightweight, water-based or gel-like liquid packed with a high concentration of one or two active ingredients. Think of it as the treatment step. Because the molecules are small and there is little to no heavy oil in the formula, a serum sinks deep into the skin instead of sitting on top.

\nVitamin C serum: fades dark spots and dullness. See our Vitamin C morning routine guide.
\nNiacinamide serum: controls oil, shrinks the look of pores, calms redness. We compared 5% vs 10% niacinamide here.
\nHyaluronic acid serum: pulls water into dehydrated skin, even if your skin is oily.
\nRetinol: fine lines and stubborn pigmentation, used at night.

One serum at a time is enough for most people. More is not better, it is just irritating.

What is a moisturizer and why can you not skip it?

A moisturizer is a cream or lotion that does two jobs: it adds water to the skin (through humectants like glycerin) and it stops that water from escaping (through occlusive and barrier ingredients like ceramides). It also protects your skin from pollution, dust and dry air, which matters a lot in Pakistani cities.

The key point: a serum treats a problem, but a moisturizer keeps your skin barrier healthy. If your barrier is damaged, no serum will fix your skin. If you use a serum and skip moisturizer, much of the hydration simply evaporates within an hour.

What is a face oil and who actually needs one?

A face oil is exactly what it sounds like: a blend of plant or synthetic oils with no water at all. Oil cannot hydrate your skin because it contains no water. What it does brilliantly is seal: it forms a thin layer on top that locks in everything underneath.

That makes face oil useful for:

Very dry or mature skin, especially in winter
Sealing in your routine on cold, dry nights (December to February in most of Pakistan)
Adding glow under makeup for an event

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you usually do not need a face oil at all. Your skin is already making plenty.

Serum vs moisturizer vs face oil: what is the actual difference?

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

	Serum	Moisturizer	Face Oil
Main job	Treat a specific concern (spots, acne, dullness)	Hydrate and protect the barrier	Seal in moisture, add glow
Texture	Thin liquid or gel	Cream or lotion	Pure oil
Contains water?	Usually yes	Yes	No
When to apply	First, on clean skin	After serum	Last, only if needed
Best for	Anyone with a specific skin goal	Everyone, every skin type, daily	Dry or mature skin, winter nights
Skip if	You have no specific concern	Never skip	Oily or acne-prone skin in summer

Which one should you use first?

The rule is simple: apply thinnest to thickest. Cleanser, then serum, then moisturizer, then face oil (optional), then sunscreen in the morning. If you put oil or cream on first, the serum cannot get through, and you have wasted the most expensive bottle in your routine. We cover the full sequence in the correct order to apply skincare products.

What does Pakistani skin actually need, by skin type?

Oily or acne-prone skin: a niacinamide or salicylic acid serum plus a light gel moisturizer. Skip face oil. In Karachi or Lahore humidity, a gel moisturizer alone may be enough on hot days, but do not drop it entirely or your skin will panic and produce even more oil.

Dry or tight-feeling skin: a hyaluronic acid serum, a proper cream moisturizer, and 2 to 3 drops of face oil at night in winter. This is the combo that finally fixes flaking.

Combination skin: serum on the whole face, richer cream on dry cheeks, lighter layer on the oily T-zone. No oil needed except on cheeks in winter.

Dark spots and uneven tone: vitamin C in the morning under moisturizer and sunscreen, niacinamide at night. Sunscreen is non-negotiable or the spots come back. See our SPF guide for Pakistani skin types.

Do you need all three, or is that marketing?

Honest answer: two is enough for most people. Cleanser, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen. That four-step routine beats a ten-step routine done wrong. Add a face oil only when your skin still feels dry after moisturizing, which in Pakistan mostly happens in winter. If your routine is not showing results even with the right products, read why skincare routines stop working before buying anything new.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use serum without moisturizer?

You can, but you should not. The serum will absorb, then much of its hydration evaporates. Moisturizer is what holds it in. If you can only afford one, buy the moisturizer and add a serum later.

Can I replace moisturizer with face oil?

No. Oil has no water in it, so it cannot hydrate. It only seals. Using oil alone on dehydrated skin makes the dryness worse over time.

Serum, moisturizer aur face oil mein farq kya hai?

Serum skin ke andar ja kar masla treat karta hai (jaise daag dhabbe ya acne). Moisturizer skin ko hydrate aur protect karta hai. Face oil sab se ooper lag kar moisture ko lock karta hai. Order yaad rakhein: pehle serum, phir moisturizer, phir zaroorat ho to oil.

Is face oil good for oily skin?

Usually no. Oily skin already produces enough oil. The better fix is a hyaluronic acid serum under a gel moisturizer, because oily skin is often dehydrated, not over-hydrated.

How long until a serum shows results?

Hydration serums (hyaluronic acid) work within days. Brightening serums like vitamin C and niacinamide need 4 to 8 weeks of daily use. Pigmentation with retinol can take 8 to 12 weeks. Consistency matters more than the brand.

Ask any beauty lover in Pakistan about their worst online shopping story and you will hear the same plot: the serum that smelled like dish soap, the \"original\" foundation that separated in a week, the sunscreen at 60 percent off that turned out to be a very convincing fake. The counterfeit cosmetics market here is not a small problem. It is the default risk of buying beauty online.

Quick answer: Buy 100% original cosmetics online in Pakistan from stores that source directly from brands or authorized distributors, have a verifiable physical presence, offer cash on delivery with return options, and price products within a realistic range of international retail. Before paying, verify the batch code on sites like CheckFresh, inspect packaging print quality, and treat any price 40 to 70 percent below market rate as a red flag.

\n\n

Why fakes are everywhere in the Pakistani beauty market

Three things created the perfect storm. First, demand for imported brands (The Ordinary, CeraVe, COSRX, Palmer's) exploded faster than official distribution. Second, most brands have no direct retail presence in Pakistan, so every bottle passes through a chain of importers, wholesalers and resellers, and each handoff is a chance for fakes to enter. Third, social media shops can appear and disappear overnight, selling \"original\" stock with zero accountability.

The result is a market where the fake often costs the seller one tenth of the real product, and the packaging is good enough to fool you until the formula touches your skin.

\n\n

The 5-step authenticity check (do this before you pay, or when the parcel arrives)

THE AUTHENTICITY CHECKLIST: SAVE THIS

Batch code verified online

Crisp printing, correct spelling

Importer or distributor label

Price within realistic range

Texture and scent match reviews

\n\n

1. Verify the batch code

Every genuine product carries a batch code, printed or embossed on the bottom of the bottle or box. Run it through a free verification site like CheckFresh to confirm the production date and that the code format matches the brand. Some brands go further: COSRX, for example, has an official authentication portal for batch verification. A missing, smudged or randomly stamped code is the fastest counterfeit tell.

2. Inspect the packaging print

Authentic products have crisp, high-resolution fonts, correct spelling and aligned logos. Fakes get caught by the small things: slightly wrong color shades, blurry text, sticker labels pasted over cheap printing, or ingredient lists copied with typos. Compare against the brand's official product photos before accepting.

3. Look for the importer label

Legally imported clinical and medical-grade brands usually carry a sticker naming the authorized local distributor (something like \"Imported and Marketed by...\"). No label does not prove a fake, but a proper one is strong evidence of a legitimate supply chain.

4. Read the price like a detective

Genuine stores run sales, but global brands have real costs. If a serum that retails internationally for the equivalent of Rs. 4,000 is being offered at Rs. 1,200 \"original, sealed, limited stock\", walk away. Prices 40 to 70 percent below international retail are the single most reliable warning sign.

5. Test texture and scent

Genuine formulas are uniform: no clumping, no separation into layers, no unusually greasy feel. And unscented clinical skincare should not smell like perfume. A sharp chemical or soapy smell from a product known to be fragrance-free means the bottle was filled locally.

\n\n

How to judge the store, not just the product

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Trust signal	What good looks like	Red flag
Physical presence	Real shop address you can visit or verify on the map	Only an Instagram page, no address
Sourcing	Direct from brands or authorized distributors	\"Imported stock\" with no supply chain detail
Payment options	Cash on delivery plus return or exchange policy	Advance payment only, no returns
Pricing pattern	Close to market rate with occasional discounts	Everything permanently 50 to 70 percent off
Content and support	Detailed guides, answers questions, educates buyers	Copies product photos, never answers specifics

The stores that rank for \"original cosmetics Pakistan\" (large platforms you already know) earned trust through volume and years of operation. But smaller, specialized stores with a physical shop and direct sourcing can be equally safe, and often more careful, because their entire reputation rides on every single order.

Where Aslam Beauty stands on this

We are not neutral on this topic, so let us be transparent about who we are. Aslam Beauty is run by Al Aslam Traders, with a physical shop (Shop 20 to 22, Taj Market, Karkhano, Peshawar) that you can walk into and verify. Everything on aslambeauty.com comes through that same supply chain: sourced from brands or authorized distributors, stored sealed, and never repackaged or diluted.

We offer cash on delivery and nationwide delivery across Pakistan, because trust should not require advance payment from a first-time customer. And we publish honest guides like our posts on what stretch mark creams can and cannot do, because a store that lies in its content will lie about its stock.

Whether you buy from us or anyone else, use the checklist above. It works on every store, including this one. That is the point of it.

Frequently asked questions

Which website sells 100% original cosmetics in Pakistan?

No single website owns the title. Buy from stores with a verifiable physical presence, direct or authorized sourcing, cash on delivery, and realistic pricing. Then verify the batch code and packaging of whatever arrives, regardless of where you ordered from.

How do I check if my skincare product is original in Pakistan?

Find the batch code on the bottle or box and verify it on CheckFresh or the brand's own portal. Check print quality and spelling on the packaging, look for an importer label, and confirm the texture and scent match what reviewers describe. Price far below market rate is a warning sign on its own.

Is it safe to buy makeup from Daraz or Instagram shops?

Marketplaces host both official brand stores and anonymous resellers. On Daraz, prefer flagship or authorized stores with high ratings. For Instagram-only sellers with no address, no return policy and advance-only payment, the risk is entirely yours.

Asal products kaise pehchanein (how to identify original products)?

Batch code online verify karein, packaging ki printing aur spelling check karein, aur price market rate se bohat kam ho toh fake hone ka chance zyada hai. COD wali trusted stores se hi order karein.

Does Aslam Beauty offer cash on delivery?

The bottom line

In Pakistan's beauty market, authenticity is not something a store claims. It is something you verify. Check the batch code, read the packaging, question the price, and buy from sellers who can be found after the sale. Do that, and the fakes stop being your problem.

If you are buying skincare, makeup, haircare or fragrance online in Pakistan, the safest approach is not to judge authenticity from one sign alone. Check the seller, packaging, batch or lot information, product details, condition, and purchase record together. A barcode by itself is not proof that a product is genuine, and an unusually low price is not automatically proof that it is fake.

This guide gives you a practical checklist you can use before ordering and again when the parcel arrives.

\n\n

What is the quickest way to check if a cosmetic is original?

Start with the source. A professional retailer should be able to tell you what product you are buying, show clear product information, identify the brand correctly, provide an order record, and answer reasonable questions about packaging, batch information and expiry. Then compare the product you receive with the brand's normal packaging and the information shown on the retailer's listing.

Do not rely on a single online barcode or batch-code website. Those tools can be useful clues, but they do not replace checking the physical product and the seller.

1. Check the seller before checking the bottle

A genuine product can still be sold through an unreliable channel, so seller quality matters first. Look for a real website, clear contact details, consistent product information, a visible business identity, customer-service channels and a clear order process.

Be cautious when the only evidence is a social-media account, a copied product photo, a price that looks unrealistic, or a seller who refuses basic questions about the product.

Aslam Beauty has operated in the beauty and cosmetics trade since 1998 and serves customers through its physical presence in Peshawar and online store. You can learn more on the About page and shop the Skin Care collection.

2. Compare the packaging with the brand

Look at the spelling, logo treatment, product name, net quantity, ingredient panel, manufacturer or distributor information, language, print quality and overall construction. A genuine product can have packaging changes between production runs or markets, so one small visual difference is not enough to call something fake.

Instead, look for multiple inconsistencies. Blurry printing, obvious spelling errors, badly aligned labels, poor-quality seals or packaging that looks substantially different from the brand's normal presentation deserve further checking.

\n\n

3. Find the batch or lot information

Many cosmetics carry a batch, lot or production code on the box, bottle, tube crimp, jar base or another part of the packaging. The exact location varies by brand and product.

Check whether the code is present where you would reasonably expect product identification information to appear. Keep a photo of it with your order record. If a brand provides an official way to verify a batch, use that method first.

A batch code is useful evidence, but its presence alone does not prove authenticity. Counterfeit packaging can copy printed information too.

4. Check expiry, PAO and product condition

Look for an expiry or best-before date where applicable, or a period-after-opening symbol such as 12M when that is how the product is labelled. Also inspect the seal, cap, pump, tube and product texture.

Do not use a product if the packaging is damaged in a way that could have affected the contents, the product appears contaminated, the seal is broken unexpectedly, or the product has a strong unexplained change in smell, colour or texture.

5. Compare the product details, not just the product photo

Before ordering, compare the product name, size, shade, variant, ingredients and intended use with the physical item you receive. Product formulations and packaging can change, so the physical packaging supplied by the manufacturer should be treated as the final reference for the current batch.

This is especially important for cosmetics sold in several sizes or versions. A seller may accidentally list the wrong image or variant, which is a product-listing problem rather than evidence of counterfeit stock.

6. Be careful with prices that look too good

Price is a signal, not a verdict. Genuine products can be discounted because of promotions, older packaging, clearance, exchange-rate changes or different sourcing costs. At the same time, an extreme price difference should make you ask more questions.

Compare the price across several established retailers and compare the exact size and variant. A 30ml serum and a 60ml serum are not directly comparable, and a body spray is not the same concentration as an Eau de Parfum.

7. Keep your order evidence

Save the order confirmation, invoice or receipt, product photos and any messages exchanged with the seller. If there is a problem, this evidence makes it much easier to identify what was ordered and what arrived.

When a parcel arrives, photograph the outer package and the product before opening or using it if you have any concern. For a damaged or incorrect order, contact the retailer promptly and follow its current support or return process.

What should you never use as the only authenticity test?

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Signal	Useful?	Why it is not enough alone
Barcode	Yes, as a clue	A copied barcode does not prove the item is genuine.
Batch code	Yes	It should be considered with packaging and seller evidence.
Low price	Warning signal	Discounts and sourcing differences can be legitimate.
Product photo	Limited	Photos can be copied and may not show the actual stock.

How does Aslam Beauty approach authenticity?

Aslam Beauty's store focuses on authentic international and local beauty and personal-care brands, with product information and current catalog details provided on the store. If you are unsure about a specific item, check its product page and contact the team before ordering rather than guessing.

Start with the Aslam Beauty home page, browse the Skin Care collection, or explore Makeup and Hair Care.

Frequently asked questions

Does a barcode prove that a cosmetic is original?

No. A barcode can help identify a product or variant, but it should not be treated as a complete authenticity test.

How can I check a cosmetic batch code?

Find the batch or lot code on the packaging and, when the brand offers an official verification method, use that method. Keep the code with your purchase record.

What if the packaging looks different from an older product?

Packaging can change between production runs and markets. Compare several details and, if you are still unsure, ask the brand or retailer rather than assuming the product is counterfeit.

Should I buy cosmetics only because they are much cheaper?

No. Compare the exact size, variant, seller, packaging and purchase terms. A very low price is a reason to investigate, not proof by itself.

Final checklist before you buy

Seller has a real business presence.
Product name, size and variant are clear.
Packaging looks consistent with the brand.
Batch or lot information is present where expected.
Expiry or PAO information is understandable.
Price is plausible for the exact product and size.
You can keep an order record and contact the seller if there is a problem.

Buying authentic cosmetics is a process of checking evidence, not spotting one magic code. If several signals line up, you can make a much more informed purchase.

Vitamin C and sunscreen are not interchangeable and not optional together, they work as a pair. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps defend skin against the free radical damage UV exposure causes, and sunscreen is the physical and chemical block that stops most of that UV from reaching skin in the first place. Used without sunscreen, vitamin C's protective benefit is working against a flood it cannot fully hold back. The order you apply them in also matters more than most routines account for.

What does each product actually do?

Vitamin C serum, like the Vibrant Beauty Vitamin-C Serum, is an antioxidant treatment. It helps brighten skin tone over time and supports the skin's defense against environmental damage, but it does not block UV rays. Sunscreen, like Vibrant Beauty's Ultra Defense range (SPF 50 to 85), physically and chemically blocks UV radiation from reaching the skin. They solve different problems. Vitamin C supports skin from the inside against damage already occurring, sunscreen prevents most of that damage from happening in the first place.

What order should you apply them in?

\nCleanse first, on dry or towel-dried skin.
\nVitamin C serum next, while skin is still slightly damp, which helps absorption.
\nWait two to three minutes for the serum to fully absorb before the next step.
\nMoisturiser, if your skin needs one, in a thin layer.
\nSunscreen last, always the final step before you leave the house, applied generously and reapplied every two to three hours if you're outdoors for long stretches.

Applying sunscreen before vitamin C, or skipping the wait time between steps, is the most common mistake. Sunscreen needs to sit on top as the outermost layer to form an even, unbroken barrier.

Can you use vitamin C and sunscreen together every day?

Yes, this is the intended daily routine, not an occasional one. Vitamin C serum in the morning, sunscreen as the final step, every day you're exposed to daylight, indoors near windows included, since UVA passes through glass.

Do you need both if you only go outside briefly?

UV exposure adds up even on short trips and through windows, so sunscreen is worth applying as a daily habit rather than something reserved for long outdoor days. Vitamin C's benefit builds over consistent use too, so both work best as daily steps rather than occasional ones.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix vitamin C serum directly into my sunscreen?

It's better to apply them as separate layers in order rather than mixing, since mixing can dilute both products and affect how evenly the sunscreen forms its protective layer.

Which SPF should I choose for daily wear in Pakistan?

SPF 50 is a solid daily baseline for most skin types in Pakistan's sun intensity. SPF 60 to 85 adds extra margin for extended outdoor time or higher-risk sun exposure.

Does vitamin C serum expire or lose effectiveness?

Vitamin C can oxidize over time, especially with light and air exposure, which is why it's best stored away from direct sunlight and used within the timeframe noted on the packaging after opening.

Build your morning routine
